When the school opened in Lingdale House, it had 24 pupils. By the time of the first inspection in 1920, there were a total of 81 pupils (63 Boarders and 19 Day Pupils), 11 full time staff and 8 occasional staff.

By 1951 there were 375 pupils (54 Boarders and 321 Day Pupils), 14 full time staff, 9 part time staff and 3 visiting teachers for Elocution, Greek and Physics.

The population of the school continued to increase and in 2005 the school had a total of 908 pupils.
