Early in 1985, the school started to consider a new Sports Hall. The hall was to be large enough to accommodate a full size netball court, with changing rooms, showers and staff facilities. A covered link between the new hall and the existing buildings was also considered.

Four different designs were considered, ranging from a light weight framed construction with fabric covering and hard base walls; to a building of brick construction with steel and timber pitched roof.

The site chosen for the new building was the walled gaden, this was the kitchen garden for the convent, with vegetables and fruit trees, and a greenhouse in the corner.
