The first chapel at Upton Hall was on the top floor of the 1863 (now Upton) building. This was small and, because of its location within the school, difficult for local Catholics to use.

As the number of catholics increased, the chaplain started to say a second Mass in the school room in the Priest's house for them.

In 1871 the present Chapel was built in an existing barn. A side trancept was built at right angles to the new Chapel and this served as Parish Church for the Catholics of Upton until 1953.
