It was Father McGonagle's desire to have the church consecrated, and so, to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the building of the church, the Right Reverend Eric Grasar, Bishop of Shrewsbury, dedicated Saint Joseph's Church on 18th October 1979.
The Archbishop of Cardiff, the Most Reverend John Murphy, who in 1944 had been the first Parish Priest at Greasby, gave the homily. The guest of honour was Canon Maurice Stone, who had been the first Parish Priest in the new St Joseph's church.

Prior to the consecration, the church was re-decorated, new lighting was installed (although the original pendant lights were retained as well) and the altar was brought forward to enable the priest to face the people (prior to this a portable altar had been used).
